The ground felt strange beneath her body. It felt cold and incredibly soft, so unlike the hard packed Savannah ground. It felt wet too, and Kiara wrinkled her nose as she tried wriggling away from it. The lioness felt incredibly weak, for reasons she could not fathom, and the wriggle only moved her a couple of centimeters to her left. She growled, disliking this wet and cold ground immensely and attempted to scramble up. Dizziness washed over her and she tumbled down, a pitiful mew leaving the back of her throat. She lay there for a long moment, studying the scenery around her from ground level. The ground all around her was the purest shade of white she had ever seen, so dazzling that she had to blink several times before her eyes could adjust. In the distance grew a jungle, but the trees were odd and unlike anything she had ever seen in the Pride Lands. Where she most clearly wasn't any more. The Pride Lands didn't have such cold white ground. The Pride Lands didn't have strange looking trees, nor stone enclosures dividing the land up. She wondered why anyone would even want to divide the land up; she could not understand the logic nor the gain that one would get from such a thing.

Slowly she pushed herself up, shaking her head in an attempt to clear it. The white stuff, whatever it was, clung to her face and Kiara shook her head harder in an attempt to shake it off. The dizziness she had been feeling earlier was back and she quickly stopped shaking, and instead very slowly looked around her, brown eyes narrowing slightly at this odd new site. This was most definitely not the Pride Lands. It certainly wasn't even the Outlands, though admittedly the princess hadn't ever gone there. Wherever this place was, it wasn't her home, nor was it anywhere remotely close to home. It was so foreign and different to anything she had ever seen before, that she could safely say that it was entirely a different world to her. Which, Kiara decided as her dizziness subsided wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She was at heart an adventurer, and as long as she could somehow find a way back to her beloved Pride Lands, she could explore this land while she found her way back home. She had to make the best out of the situation, and besides, it would make for some very interesting tales for when she went back.

Her spirits lifted, Kiara began to check herself over for injuries, her brow suddenly furrowed with confusion and upset. This body wasn't hers. She knew her body and whatever this thing she was in was, it didn't belong to her. Why am I not a lion any more?! What is this strange body and why am I in it?! She turned her paws over and peered at them, upset flickering in her eyes. My paws - why are they split into five thin worm-looking things? Where's my fur?! Looking over herself she discovered that she was completely hairless and a growl sounded in her throat. Why did she look like this?! She looked like freak! A choked sob left her lips and she fell down onto her back, tears streaming down her face. No, she decided, she didn't like this place at all. All thoughts of grand adventures and exploring instantly fled her mind as she closed her eyes, wishing herself back home. She wanted to go back. Back to her home, to her pride. Back to being a lion, not this furless mutant.

NOTES I'm quite enjoying writing these long starters; it's a nice challenge. However please don't feel you have to match it by this length. I just enjoy rambling xD

We Have Dragons

Toothless landed hard with a loud grunt, rolling onto his side and awkwardly rushing his arms to his side to stop himself. Jerking his head up, he looked around and rushed to take in the surroundings. He could've sworn he landed on something. For a few moments longer, his eyes darted about some more before landing on a two-legged creature. Her hair color reminded him of Astrid, Hiccup's friend, but her dress was all wrong. The dragon cocked his head to the side, ignoring the fact that his current position was an odd splay of his limbs to make sure he stayed where he was.

But this wasn't Berk. Taking several deep breaths of the air, he noted it smelled nothing like home. And who was this person? She certainly wasn't from Berk. He hadn't ever seen her before, actually. It was also cold, and there was that white stuff Hiccup and the others called 'snow' all over the place. It hadn't been 'snowing' back in Berk. With a soft, small snort, he looked back to the light-haired two-leg curiously before noticing something else... He looked kinda like her! That wasn't right... He was a dragon. What happened to his tail and his wings? And these certainly weren't scales he was wearing.

A small grunt-like noise was the sign of his confusion, and he looked almost expectantly back at the girl as if she could explain what was going on. The last thing he remembered was running from Hiccup because the young chief wanted to go flying and he was way too tired to go off on another search for adventure at that exact moment. So what had happened between then and now that had left him like this?

He frowned slightly, also realizing that he hadn't landed on something, but rather he'd probably landed on her. Whoops... Regardless, that still didn't answer his question of why he was here, wherever that was, and why he was like this when he was a dragon. There was a major difference between dragon and human, no matter what Valka had said. And where was Hiccup? He had to find Hiccup if he was even around here!

Shivering, Kiara closed her eyes to block out this strange world. She was soaking wet and absolutely freezing. How was it that this substance, whatever it was, could do that to her? It wasn't water and yet it was just as wet and cold. She didn't like it, and as she shivered again, she missed the arid Savannah heat. She would rather be be too hot, rather than too cold like now. She was dreaming. She had to be. That was the only explanation. This was all just a very bad dream and any minute now she was going to wake up and find herself back in her lion form, sleeping cuddled up to Kovu. She scrunched her face tight, willing herself to wake up. Come on! Wake up! She needed to get out of this place and back home.

Suddenly something solid and very heavy landed on top of her, causing her eyes to fly open, and a yelp leaving her throat. Scrambling up, she edged away from the stranger, her brown eyes full of confused fear as she looked him over. He looked exactly like her, but given that she wasn't sure exactly what she was either, that didn't help in determining whether he was a threat or not. After all, he'd fallen right onto her, and whether it was accidental or a strange form of attack, Kiara wasn't sure. But she wasn't taking any chances.

Frowning she gave a roar, trying to scare him off, but her once-mighty roar came out as nothing more than a squeak, like that of a lion cub. She shook her head, confused. What had happened to my voice?! She roared again, trying to make her roar even louder than before, but once again the roar was only a squeak. Upset, she sat back on her haunches, swallowing back a sob. Looking down at the ridiculous new body of hers, her features crumpled, and turning her back on the stranger, she plonked herself down onto the ground, placing her chin on top of what used to be her paws. Grizzling to herself, she whacked the stupid white substance with her hand, watching it as it flew in different directions.

Her father's words of 'never turn your back on an Outsider' suddenly ran through her mind and furtively she turned her head to look over her shoulder at the strange male. He didn't look like any Outsider she'd ever met before, but then again she no longer looked like a Pride Lander. She gazed at him curiously, taking in everything about him. The dark hair, the black fur substitute. She frowned slightly as a thought came to her. Could it be...? No, surely not... She couldn't see any scar above his left eye, but he had landed right after her. She shook her head as she sneezed, turning her head away from him so as to not be caught staring. It can't be Kovu. Can it...?

NOTES She thinks he's her mate. I should be sorry, but I'm totally not xD

We Have Dragons

Toothless watched the unfamiliar female as she seemed to struggle through the same confusion he had. Gathering himself up again so he could sit in some kind of respectable form, he carefully took note of each limb he now had, trying to remember how Hiccup had made them all work to get from one place to another with only two legs. It was such a strange thing! Then again, he'd seen humans before he first met Hiccup, so it wasn't entirely foreign. It was still weird though. How do they manage it? he wondered, Two legs instead of four?

Truthfully, it had never occurred as a big problem to the dragon, but it certainly seemed like it was going to be one now. His thoughts and untangling of his new form was interrupted as he heard a squeak and he abruptly looked back up to find that the light-haired female was still sitting there near him and he watched as she shook her head in another act of what he could only guess was confusion. No humans he'd ever met tried to communicate like that. Toothless blinked, cocking his head to the side to further study the stranger, listening as she attempted to do whatever she was trying to do again and another squeak came from her form.

Then the female seemed quite crestfallen and she turned her back on him. For a few moments, the dragon struggled on what reaction to have to that, trying to puzzle through what he was now capable of. Slowly, he folded his new legs under him and sat back, surprised to find that they worked similarly to his old ones, and it was easy enough considering that he'd been around all the vikings. He might not fully understand why or exactly how they functioned, but at least he knew something about how to use them.

Still unsure of how to respond to the the female's apparent crisis, the male grunted softly, frowning slightly when it sounded like such a thing. He was no longer a dragon, that much was for certain, and he started to guess that that meant he'd have to find out how to work this new form gradually and that there would be some things he wouldn't be able to do anymore. Once again untangling his legs, he twisted around to look over his new body again. It was definitely making him look more like Hiccup, and Toothless figured that meant this body operated just like he'd seen all of those vikings move about, although figuring out just how to use it was going to be the real problem.

It was also starting to become increasingly clear that it was rather cold. Pawing through the white snow with his hands to try to understand what in the name of gods he was dealing with was starting to make them feel rather freezing and he soon pulled them out of the wet, cool substance, shaking them to dislodge the few bits and clumps of snow that insisted on sticking to him before curiously studying them over. How odd... Humans are just... plain strange... He hadn't put so much thought towards this before, and that was probably because it really didn't concern him.

He paused as he noticed he was being watched, looking back over at the female just in time to see her look away again. The male cocked his head to the side, once again wondering about the female. She seemed half-curious about him, and then, at the same time, she also seemed like she'd rather just have him leave her alone. On top of the rest of his confusion, it left him rather at a loss for how to take to her. Part of him wanted to approach her, as she didn't appear to pose a threat, and the other thought that maybe, just maybe, he should leave her alone. He didn't exactly want to intrude upon anyone right now. What he really needed to do was find out what in the name of the gods had happened to him and where he was now.

Turning around, Kiara sat up and looked at the stranger again, her head cocked to the side for a long moment as she studied him. Part of her didn't believe that it was Kovu, but the bigger part of her longed for it to be him, if only so she could have someone familiar in this strange (and so far unpleasant) world. She opened her mouth to try and ask him what his name was, but no sound came out and she closed it again, frustration flitting through her eyes. No matter, she'd try something else until she figured out just who this being was. Now that she had the tiniest glimmer of hope that it was her mate, she needed to know.

Not bothering to get up properly and test her new limbs out, Kiara walked over to him on all fours, plonking herself down straight in front of him and looking at him for a moment longer. Next second she leaned over to sniff at him, but quickly pulled back, frowning. He smelt different, not at all how her Kovu smelt. Sitting back with a slight frown, she sniffed her own shoulder to check that she smelt like herself. A puzzled expression crinkled her features; she didn't smell like herself either. There was an extremely vague hint of her Pridelander self still on her, but the scent was fading. So maybe the same thing was happening to the potential Kovu; the sharp cold air was obliterating any trace of Pridelander from his new form.

Moving closer to him, she leaned over and sniffed his neck, her nose brushing right against the soft skin of the male's neck. Kiara couldn't help marveling at the softness; she'd prided herself on the softness of her lion fur, but this was just oddly amazing. It was like that of a newborn lion cub, except smooth instead of coarse. Maybe this new body wasn't so bad after all. A moment later she gently nuzzled his cheek with her nose, sitting back on her haunches and smiling at him expectantly, as if waiting for him to realize who she was. Next second, however, a shiver ran down her spine and she scuttled a bit closer to him, nudging her way under his arm to share in his body warmth. They'd have to get out of the cold soon and go find shelter, but that could wait until their hellos were done.

NOTES So, I probably should be sorry, but I'm totally not xD

We Have Dragons

Toothless was at a complete loss when it came to this stranger. From seeming unwilling to deal with him to now being what seemed to be curious about him, he was finding it hard to decide just what she wanted or how to take her. For a few moments, he turned his attention off of her to take a few more deep breaths of the unfamiliar, biting air. He could find nothing that reminded him of home on the cold winds, and, as much as that might be affected by the temperature itself, the male found it hard to believe that there was any possibility that he was anywhere near Berk. How else could one exchange this strange change in form?

Toothless refocused on the female as she attempted communication again, about to attempt to respond in some way, although what way, he had no clue, but she was already walking over to join him by the time the thought was completed in his head. He sat back a little more as the female situated herself straight in front of him, his eyes narrowed every so slightly as he looked her over from top to bottom in detail this time. He couldn't recognize anything about her enough to give him a solid idea of who she was, but maybe there was simply nothing to recognize. He was becoming more and more inclined to believe that maybe he just happened to land on her, as a freak accident and coincidence, and he really didn't know her at all.

Then she sniffed leaned forward and sniffed him. The male raised one arm a little, as if uncertain if he could trust her, and he narrowed his eyes again, watching as she then sniffed herself before a puzzled expression passed over her features. Intrigued, he let her closer to him without protest, noting that she was cold as he gave her a small sniff himself, trying to figure out if there was any hint of something to tell him something about who she was and why her behavior towards him had changed so quickly.

He then blinked in surprise as he felt her nose against his cheek, raising his head a bit as she sat back and looked at him. She seemed to be waiting on some sort of recognition from him, but he didn't have any to give. He didn't know her, or he didn't think he did, at least. Before he could shake his head to tell her he didn't get what she was trying to communicate to him, she was getting close to him again. He couldn't let her alone out in this cold...! Carefully, he raised one arm and put it around her shoulders, watching her to make sure he didn't somehow hurt her. When he was certain she had made herself comfortable, a soft sigh finally left his form and he gave the top of her head a small nuzzle. He felt a bit protective of her now. He didn't know her, that was for sure, but someone would have to keep an eye on her out here. This weather wasn't exactly the most forgiving, and he wasn't going to be the one to let her alone out in it, either.
