A Rose By Any Other Name // Spirit and Rain

AND TIPTOE THROUGH THE TULIPS WITH ME

A gentle flurry of snowflakes whirled around, hitting Daisy right in the face and melting upon impact. The brunette smiled, reaching up and gently wiping away the wet spots from her cheeks and eyes. It was strange how quickly time had passed - it seemed only just last week that she'd been ripped out of wintery London and thrown into this strange new world that she'd later learned to be Albion. And yet more than four months had passed since then. She'd lived out the last summer months that had been offered, shivered her way through an Albion autumn, and now she was back to where she'd first started - back to Winter.

She had lamented that the portal couldn't have thrown her out any sooner so she could have enjoyed more of the beautiful Summer (so much warmer and more pleasurable than London summers), but she was content. In fact, life couldn't have been better for the ex-Weeping Angel even if she'd tried. She had a beautiful home that she'd made her own, a loyal friend who despite being a sentient stone door was her closest friend, and now she even had a job, thanks to Oscar. A stall had been abandoned out in Bowerstone Market and somehow through the Demon Door Grapevine, he'd heard about it and had announced that she should go and sell her flowers there.

So she had. She'd gone up to the castle, paid a fee to get the stall deed changed to her name (not having any gold of her own, Oscar had let her take some of the gold he was storing in his cavern), and now here she was selling flowers to the citizens of Albion. It was a job that she absolutely adored, growing the flowers in her cottage and bringing them by the vase-full to the stall to bring some colour and cheer to Bowerstone. As the seasons progressed, the flowers changed from summery carnations, to autumnal dahlias, and now that Winter had come, her stall was full of glass jars and bottles of every shape and size. Inside each bottles were various plants in their own nest of soil, so even though snow lay all around, preventing her from growing beautiful flowers to cheer the masses, the citizens could each have a little part of nature in their concrete jungle.

An attention-seeking mew brought Daisy out of her thoughts, and with a smile she looked over at Cheshire before reaching out and stroking his stripey head. She'd met the cat the very first day that she'd opened up the stall; he'd been a pitiful, bony kitten, abandoned and left to survive on his own. Daisy had taken pity on the poor creature and had instantly headed over to the fishmongers to buy him the biggest fish she could afford to feed him. When the kitten didn't leave at the end of the day, Daisy had taken him with her and he'd become her constant companion, travelling with her through the cullis gate every day. Pulling out a pocket watch, the brunette gave a soft chuckle upon seeing the time. As usual she had completely lost track of time and forgotten all about lunch. Lucky she had Cheshire to remind her otherwise she'd never remember when to eat or when to pack up and go home. The tiny furball had an uncanny sense of time-keeping, which was good because the concept of time-keeping was still a rather strange prospect for her. Not having ever had to conform to any sort of schedule she found it strange that the lives of humans were so reliant on a concept that they themselves had created. No matter. She'd get the hang of it soon. She laughed as Cheshire butted her hand and gave another pleading mew. "Soon. I'll get us lunch soon. Learn some patience, little one."

NOTES Forgive the long starter, I got carried away! Please don't feel you have to match this! Cheshire looks like this <3

Spirit snorted softly at the cold flakes that insisted on landing on his face. He wasn't used to these cold winter stretches. Whether the difference had to do with his new form or just the simple change in location was beyond him, but it was still slightly bothering either way. He'd experienced snow before, but he'd had a warm coat and the company of his herd to help ward off the cooler temperatures.

On the upside, this new land was fascinating. It had his curiosity captured and held in a tight hold. His unfamiliarity with his new form was also cause for much exploration of his new home, and he had just started to grasp an understanding of the way things worked around the land. Through observation and a little help from some people he'd met along the way, he'd managed to get the basics, even managing to get his name and a 'hello' out now that he'd had some practice. The interactions still baffled him and he was terribly unused to having his balance on two legs instead of four, but at least he'd seen these creatures before. Still... to actually be one? He wouldn't have considered it a possibility in his wildest of dreams.

Occasionally, he longed for the members of his herd, but that longing was eased when he'd found that Rain had received the same fate as he had and had also landed here in this strange land. He still struggled with the name, but he was starting to understand that its name was 'Albion,' and even though his curious soul had led him to wander outside of Bowerstone, he hadn't made much travels just yet for the simple fact that he was rather ill-prepared to handle everything new that he was being confronted with.

Thankfully, his travels had yielded him some money, and now he was curiously roaming the market, every so often pausing to shake the snowflakes from his hair in an uncontrollable urge that he felt to rid himself of the flecks of soft snow that insisted on getting caught instead of melting. What he was looking for out here, he wasn't sure of, but since when had that stopped him? It had always been more of a source of motivation than a hindrance to him. He had a deeply rooted fascination with his new world, and, although he was a little weary yet of trusting everyone he met since his previous experiences with the creatures that he was now one of, he wanted to understand it. It seemed that there was no getting back to his homeland, after all, so it had only made sense to him to explore what he could find out about this new land. Maybe he'd even come across something for Rain. She had meant a lot to him since practically their first meeting. She had taught him some things and he'd fallen for her. Now that he'd had time to settle in a bit, he was hoping to show her that his feelings hadn't changed, if not for that, then just because he could. What would the offer really hurt, anyways?

She, too, had been exploring but for entirely different reasons. She had been trying to find someone that could help her to speak. She wasn't picking up the language as quickly as her mate and it bothered her. After all, she'd been around humans practically her whole life. If anything, one would think that the transition would've been easy for her but in actuality, it was anything but. She scuffed her shoe along the ground and shook her head. She missed the days when she could kick up her heels and be around young colts and fillies.

She only felt truly comfortable when she was able to help her mate guide those that depended on them. How did she communicate to her mate that she wanted to become a mother? They hadn't had the time to explore parenthood in their homeland. What if she wasn't ever able to communicate her feelings? She sighed quietly and trailed behind her mate, having kept up with the herd mentality. If something were to go awry, he'd be there to protect her. He never let her out of his sight and for that, she was almost grateful, though it could get annoying on occasions.

She stopped and breathed deeply, inhaling the aroma of flowers from a nearby stall. Biting her lip, she hurried past Spirit and made her way to the stall, admiring the flowers silently. She didn't know how to speak a single word yet and it frustrated her but she could certainly still make hand gestures. Turning to face Spirit, she gestured toward the flowers and beckoned him to come closer to her. She had always loved coming across flowers in their homeland, especially apple blossoms in the Spring. She picked up a rose and lightly stroked its petals, smiling. Maybe she could work with this woman and help her out.

She seemed nice enough. Blushing, she put the flower down and looked up at the woman. She moved her lips but no sound came out and a look of frustration crossed over her face. Not long after, she snorted and averted her gaze, seemingly ashamed of her lack of speech. She retreated back to her mate's side and reached for his hand. What she really wanted to do was find a feather that she could put in her hair, perhaps even one that was similar to the one Little Creek had given her.

Mewling and casting Daisy an affronted look, Cheshire jumped down from the stall, rubbing himself against her ankles in the hope that she would stop her job and feed him immediately. Rolling her eyes good-naturedly at his antics, Daisy gently nudged him away from her, giving him a pointed look. "You're just going to have to wait. I can't leave just yet." Despite the weather and the fact that it was beginning to snow, the market was packed today. At this rate she wouldn't be able to break away from lunch and get her stall neighbour to cover her for a good couple of hours still. "Go find someone else to feed you if you're so starving. You'd think I haven't fed you for weeks how you're acting," she added, giving her eyes a slight roll again.

A grumbling mew left his lips, but the cat plonked himself down to the left of the stall, and not looking at his owner, instead watched the Bowerstone hubbub, tail thumping against the ground every so often. Reaching out to a stone vase filled with roses, Daisy rearranged them and checked that they still had enough water to last them just as a blonde woman came up to the stall, picking up one of the roses and admiring it. Daisy couldn't help the smile that crossed her features as she did so; she liked seeing people that could appreciate the beauty of flowers like she did. "Hi, I'm Daisy," she greeted her with a friendly smile. "How are you?" She watched as the woman opened her mouth to say something, but what she wanted to say didn't come out and a sympathetic look crossed Daisy's features as she watched the other's frustration. She'd had exactly the same problem when she'd first tried to speak. Though she knew the words, not ever having a proper voicebox until her arrival in Albion, she'd never been able to speak, and it had taken Oscar months to teach her.

Before the blonde could rush away too far and get lost in the crowd, Daisy plucked the rose that the woman had just put back from its vase, Daisy hurried up to her. "Here. Please take it," she asked, holding the rose out to her. She liked the rose, and Daisy would rather spread floral beauty around Bowerstone than worry about money. One rose wouldn't mean that much to her, but she might make the woman's day and that was really what mattered to Daisy. Happiness was the most important thing, even if it was the happiness of a complete stranger. "Please," she added with a smile.

NOTES Apologies for the lame post; muse died halfway through.

Browsing over what the marketplace had to offer. It was packed with those browsing the selection like he was, but he also allowed his attention to remain on Rain. He was beginning to grow increasingly worried about her in this new land. She seemed so frustrated and Spirit was growing frustrated himself because he didn't know how to help her, and he desperately wanted to. He absolutely hated not knowing what to do to cheer her up. Seeing her like she was now... It just wasn't her. Why do I keep thinking things were so much less complicated back home?

For all he knew, things might have very well been better back in their homeland, but this new land didn't seem too terrible, either. It was just so much to adjust to from their herd, and he feared Rain wasn't taking to it as well as many, possibly even including himself, had expected her to. She had spent so much time with the Lokotas that it would've made sense for her to be teaching him things all over again. Not the other way around. The thought almost made the young man snort, but he restrained himself for the simple fact that he didn't want to give the wrong impression to anyone, especially Rain.

He was pulled from his thoughts as Rain hurried past him towards a stall with beautiful flowers. Breathing in the scent, he smiled slightly. He remembered well how she had took a liking to coming across the various wild flowers that had decorated their homeland. Joining her as she beckoned him over, he looked over the rest of the various flowers displayed before a look of frustration crossed his mate's face and he noted she wanted to communicate. That had been the hardest part for her, he knew at the back of his mind, and it had him concerned that she was so troubled with it.

Allowing Rain to take his hand, his gaze returned back to the owner of the stall as she approached Rain with the flower his mate had previously been looking at, he gave Rain a gentle nudge of encouragement and nodded to the stall owner, smiling ever so slightly as he heard some mix of words. He didn't understand everything that the young stranger said, but it didn't seem like she was upset with them. She seemed rather nice and friendly, like she would be more than happy to help, and that was more than enough for Spirit to take it as encouragement that maybe they could make this new land work, even though they were so far from home.
